Game Instructions & Controls

Avoid the obstacles, or else game over! Use your jumps wisely! You get just three jumps to bypass obstacles and then it takes 15 seconds for all three to renew!
The salmon continues to drift in the last pressed direction, so be careful and keep swimming!
Keep your eyes peeled because if you're quick enough, you can score extra points by eating flies!
Flies = +5 points

My name is Joshua Ivany. I am in the process of making a career change into software development. Much of my working experience is within the offshore and onshore food industries. I have a certificate in Marine Cooking and a diploma in Supply Chain. I also completed the Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce course through Coursera. I have been a student of the Get Coding Full Stack Software Development program since December 2023, and this is my first module project. I am hopeful that I can continue to learn and grow as a developer and become an asset to a supportive and creative team.

Special thanks to my Get Coding Mentor, Hai Nghiem, for his guidance and support throughout this project.

For my first module project, I chose a game to keep it lighthearted and fun while in the early learning stages. The game is called "Salmon Flow". It is about a salmon as the player's character trying to make it up river while avoiding obstacles along the way and surviving as long as possible. There is a desktop layout and a mobile layout which includes touch screen buttons.

The game is made in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. As well, I used the Chrome Music Lab - Song Maker to make the music and game over sound, and Inkscape to make the in-game graphics and button icons. The font used for headings, score text, level text, etc. is Orbitron, designed by Matt McInerney and found on Google Fonts. I believe the Orbitron font created a classic game "feel" to the Salmon Flow website and fit well with the overall theme I was trying to achieve. The colors 'salmon', 'lightsalmon', 'seagreen' and 'lightseagreen' were some of the main colors used in the design to highlight the theme throughout the webpage.

I faced many challenges, but I am happy with the outcome. I hope you enjoy the game. Happy Swimming!
